I did a thing. I signed up to give money to an establishment that has all sorts of metal contraptions on slides, and pulleys. They are designed in such a fashion that you get on them, and use your own body’s strength to power their movement. They are really heavy. You just keep doing it. Over, and over. I observed some participants attempting to make the task even more difficult by adding weight to the already weighted, awkward task. We were all in these metal contraptions, sweating, and making these movements …it was surreal. I had this feeling I was on another “planet” lol. Here is stage one of a bigger project Ive had in mind for a while now. This is one Ive been gathering natural materials for, I have everything I need, and now it is a matter of assembly, and prayer! This bird form is made out of th lightest materials. For the armature I crumpled parchment, and heat the form with two layers, and two kind of painters tape, then took precut strips of muslin and some watered down modge podge, and covered the whole form. It took a while to dry, but is it super hard, and amazingly light. It’s not easy making something both hard and light at the same time. I lucked out here.

Here is a closer look at the layers of muslin - I only used one layer and let the pieces overlap where they may. One, I cannot do it every day ..and that is ok. What I am doing every day is geeking out, thinking about and practicing some element of the creative process. Some days I can get to very little, uh, helloooooo life. Some days I am doing all prep for a project - I spent three days making tee shirt yarn, or “tarn.” These are the undocumented moments. There are more than I’ve ever paid attention to, and that is likely because I’ve never had a consistent practice. Well, here I am, developing one, and having a flipping amazing time of it. I think I will make one in white with novelty accents over the eyes, maybe the wings. I’ll post when I do. I may be hitting a wall with using this yarn. I really wanted to post completed work, but this one asked me for more. It hits allegorical (that word again) for sure, what I’m not sure of it what it is asking for next. Im feeling it though, and just going with it. I, again, used ink stick as the base, then came in with some acrylic over it. Im working on multi media paper, and am really challenging the claim. Rippling from the moisture is happening, so if this ends up being a piece I want to frame and hang, I may have to glue it to book board.

creehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05456943381088789543noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8193013754621491097.post-71094830478873281202024-02-05T15:29:00.000-08:002024-02-05T15:29:53.603-08:00Day 20

Today was an all day arty day! My sis came over, we are each exploring new mediums, and I touched three different pieces. This is one of three I was able to complete. I swear, junk journaling is so allegorical. I could spend a whole day just hunting imagery, assembling, cutting, painting, etc. This page is on hand made paper from ages ago, old images from art auctions, acrylic and some gold leaf. Cheers!

creehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05456943381088789543noreply@blogger.com0
